Step-by-Step Employment Process
Step 1 – Secure a Job Offer
The applicant must obtain a signed employment contract or binding job offer from a Slovak employer.
The contract must clearly state:
- Job position
- Salary
- Working hours
- Duration of employment
Step 2 – Labour Office Procedure
In many cases, the employer must:
- Report the vacancy to the Labour Office
- Comply with labour market test requirements
Some shortage occupations may benefit from simplified procedures.
Step 3 – Submit Residence Application
The applicant submits the residence application:
- At the Slovak Embassy abroad, or
- At the Foreign Police (if legally eligible to apply from within Slovakia)
All required documents must be properly legalized and officially translated into Slovak.
Step 4 – Decision & Residence Card Issuance
After approval:
- Biometric data is collected
- Residence card is issued
- Employment may legally begin
Working before official approval is strictly prohibited.
Required Documentation
Applicants typically must provide:
- Valid passport
- Employment contract
- Criminal record certificate (apostilled/legalized)
- Proof of accommodation in Slovakia
- Health insurance confirmation
- Official Slovak translations
- Passport photographs
Authorities may request additional documentation depending on the case.
Incomplete documentation is a common cause of delay or refusal.
