1. Student Visa (National Visa D & Temporary Residence for Studies)
Requirements:
Admission letter from a Slovak university
Valid passport (at least 6 months beyond intended stay)
Completed visa application form
Proof of financial resources (bank statement, scholarship, or sponsor letter)
Proof of accommodation in Slovakia (hostel contract, rental agreement, or invitation)
Comprehensive health insurance valid in Slovakia
Criminal record certificate (from India, apostilled & officially translated into Slovak)
Recent passport-sized photographs
Process
Apply for National Visa D at the Slovak Embassy (New Delhi or Mumbai).
Travel to Slovakia with Visa D.
Apply for Temporary Residence Permit for Studies at the Foreign Police office in your city (Bratislava, Košice, Banská Bystrica, etc.).
Residence card is issued within 30–90 days.
Validity
Visa D allows entry, but a residence permit is mandatory for the stay.
Temporary Residence for Studies is valid usually for 1 year and can be renewed until studies are completed.
Work Permit (Employment Visa & Temporary Residence for Employment)
Requirements:
Valid work contract from a Slovak employer
Confirmation from Labour Office that the position was advertised in Slovakia/EU
Valid passport
Proof of accommodation (rental contract, hostel, or employer-provided housing)
Health insurance valid in Slovakia
Criminal record certificate (apostilled & translated into Slovak)
Process:
Employer applies for the work permit at the Labour Office.
You apply for Temporary Residence Permit for Employment either at the Slovak Embassy in India or directly at the Foreign Police in Slovakia.
After arrival, submit biometrics (fingerprints & photograph).
Validity:
Issued for the duration of your work contract (usually 1–2 years).
Renewable before expiry.
2. Residence Permits in Slovakia
Temporary Residence – for study, work, research, business, or family
Permanent Residence – available after 5 years of continuous legal stay
Long-term Residence (EU) – after 5 years, gives rights similar to EU citizens
Application form (in Slovak, available at Foreign Police)
Valid passport
Proof of accommodation
Proof of sufficient funds (bank statement or employer letter)
Health insurance
Criminal record certificate (India + countries lived in during last 3 years)
Passport-size photographs
Apply at Foreign Police Office in your region (e.g., Bratislava, Košice, Nitra, Žilina).
Submit documents + provide biometric data.
Wait 30–90 days for decision.
Temporary Residence: 1–2 years, renewable
Permanent Residence: 5 years, renewable
3. Family & Dependents
Eligible Dependents:
Spouse
Children under 18
In certain cases, dependent parents
Requirements:
Proof of relationship (marriage certificate, birth certificate – apostilled & translated)
Proof of accommodation in Slovakia
Proof of financial resources to support family
Health insurance for dependents
Process:
Apply at Slovak Embassy in India for a Temporary Residence for Family Reunification.
Upon arrival, complete process at the Foreign Police in Slovakia.
Validity:
Usually matches the main applicant’s residence permit duration.
Spouses can apply for work authorization once in Slovakia.
