Visa Exempt Entry
✈️ Visa-Exempt Entry
For citizens of countries that have a visa-waiver agreement with the Schengen Area.
Nationals of eligible countries may enter Slovakia and other Schengen member states without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
🌍 Who Can Enter Visa-Free?
Citizens of 60+ countries, including:
- United States
- United Kingdom
- Canada
- Australia
- Japan
- UAE
- Singapore
- South Korea
- New Zealand
(Full list available on the official EU / Schengen website.)
Indian passport holders are not visa-exempt and must apply for a Schengen Visa prior to travel.
🗓 Permitted Stay
- Maximum stay: 90 days in any rolling 180-day period
- Applies across all Schengen member states combined
- Days spent in one Schengen country count toward the total limit
Overstaying may result in fines, entry bans, or future travel restrictions.
📄 Entry Requirements at Border
Even without a visa, travelers must be able to present:
- Valid passport (minimum validity requirements apply)
- Proof of accommodation
- Return or onward travel ticket
- Proof of sufficient financial means
- Travel medical insurance (recommended and often expected)
Border authorities may deny entry if requirements are not met.
💼 Important Restrictions
Visa-free entry:
- ❌ Does not permit employment
- ❌ Does not allow long-term residence
- ❌ Cannot be converted into a residence permit from within Slovakia (except in limited legal cases)
Visa-exempt entry is strictly for short-term stays such as tourism, business visits, or family visits.
🛂 ETIAS Requirement (Upcoming)
Travelers from visa-exempt countries will be required to obtain ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) approval prior to travel once implemented.
- Online authorization
- Small processing fee
- Valid for multiple short stays
- Linked electronically to passport
Travelers should check implementation timelines before departure.
⚠ Important Notice
Visa-free access does not guarantee entry. Final admission into Slovakia and the Schengen Area is determined by border control authorities.
Travelers must comply with the 90/180-day rule and maintain valid documentation throughout their stay.
Always verify the latest entry conditions through official Slovak or EU authorities before traveling.
